Yo-Ho, Making Christmas Cards!

Yo-Ho, Making Christmas Cards!

So, my brother (who works for the Post Office) has been telling me for years now that if you go to the USPS website that you can order holiday cards for Christmas (or any other holiday, birthday, etc.) and that they will send them to everyone in your address book. I thought that it seemed like a really good idea, but I had a Christmas card that I wanted to send out that first year he told me, so I didn’t do it. I ended up not sending the cards because I was so busy. I figured I could just send them out the next year. Next year came along and, again, I was really busy. I was going to send the cards out this year, but because of the move I couldn’t find them. They’re still packed away somewhere.

I was going to just forget about sending out cards yet again, this being the third year in a row. Then I sat back and remembered Chris telling me about being able to send those cards via the Post Office. Curious I went to the site, and low and behold, they have a link for cardstore.com. It was a little pricey, but I did a quick internet search and came up with a fifteen percent off coupon, and it was so worth it, just to save me the aggravation of trying to find those stupid cards and mailing them out. Now I won’t feel guilty for not sending cards as well. Nothing like having peace of mind. Thanks Chris!

Fuzzi Bunz Diapers

Fuzzi Bunz Diapers

So, way back in May or June I did an article about cloth diapers. I had been wanting to put my kids into them and gave the Bum Genius organic one-size-all-in-one diapers a try. They are really very nice diapers, but I am glad that I only ordered three since I have a giant baby. I think if you have a normal size kid these diapers would be fine, but Hunter outgrew them very fast. Well, they still fit him but it looks like he could pop out of them.

Still wanting to do cloth, but not wanting to get the kind that you have to use pins with, I scoured Craigslist and found people selling Fuzzi Bunz diapers. These seem to be working out pretty well for us. They seem to fit hunter a lot better, and I like that the poop comes off of the diapers so easily when he does poop. I liked them so much that I watched for more to come up on Craigslist and just recently got some more. Yay Fuzzi Bunz!

Wow!

Wow!

We are having a true, honest to goodness snow storm today. The first one we’ve really had since we moved to Virginia.

Update December 20, 2009: So I spent a good chunk of yesterday cooking and baking since we were stuck indoors because of the snow. I made more truffles, cookies and a big pot of chicken soup. I’m getting really good at making chicken soup. I’ll have to write another entry about it some time. Garrick and I also took the kids outside in the storm. It was so beautiful and the kids were extremely cute. It was Hunter’s first time playing in the snow and he seemed to really enjoy it. I took pictures and I will be sure to post some, as soon as I have sat down and properly filed them away.

What?!

What?!

So, this great British movie came out in 2007 called “Death at a Funeral.” It was really funny and I enjoyed it. I guess it got really great reviews and was ignored by American movie goers. Here’s the trailer:

Well, Chris Rock just produced the American version of it. What the heck? Is it really necessary to re-make a movie that was only made two years ago? Even if it didn’t get all that good of an audience attendance in the Sates?? Here is an article from slashfilm.com and the trailer.

Death at a Funeral

Screen Gems has released the first trailer for Chris Rock-produced re-imagining of Frank Oz’s 2007 British comedy Death at a Funeral. Although Oz’s original was well-received by many critics, it didn’t get very much traction with theatergoers, drawing only a niche audience. The new film has a primarily African-American cast and focuses on a funeral that “devolves into a debacle of misplaced cadavers, indecent exposure and family secrets.” Basically, they have decided to remake an English-language film, dumbing down the jokes, in an effort to attract a more black audience (and to clarify: this comment is a statement on Hollywood chooses to treat ticket-buying African-Americans, and not a statement on the intelligence of that audience). It seems completely unnecessary. If you think that sounds horrible, watch the trailer — it’s much worse.

The remake was directed by Neil LaBute (In The Company of Men, The Wicker Man, Lakeview Terrace), was written by Dean Craig (Caffeine), and stars Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, Danny Glover, Regina Hall, James Marsden, Zoe Saldana, and Columbus Short. Watch the trailer now embedded after the jump. Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Watch the trailer in High Definition on Yahoo. Death at a Funeral hits theaters on April 16th 2010.

Absent From My Own Site

Absent From My Own Site

So, I’ve been really busy lately with other internet stuff. My leadership responsibilities for my mommies group has had me really occupied. I’m really happy with that since I have been having a really good response from my members. I have had some really successful play dates in the past few weeks. I hosted my first Boogie Woogie Babies event at the library a week ago and I had a great turn out for that! Boogie Woogie Babies is one of my favorite themed events because we listen to music and have a lot of really fun activities for the little ones. Of course, to keep things successful I have a lot of follow up stuff I need to do on my mothers group website.

I have also been really busy with my Mom’s website. I finally have Paypal integrated with it! Check it out!

(tee hee hee)

We finally have Paypal integrated with our site! Which means that we are officially open for business!! Woohoo! I have been listing our jewelry on the products page for purchase. If you see something that you like on this site, but it hasn’t been listed on the products page, be sure to send me an email: marla@alainnbeadedjewelry.com I am still working on figuring out the plugin that I got to make Paypal work on our site, so there may be some more changes on the site in the future. There are other options besides the cart that were available with the plugin, so there may be some really cool things on the way!

In other news, I am still working on finding an easy way to make this site work with facebook. I believe this new plugin has an option to make wordpress sites work with facebook, which will be good. I hope it is easy to use.

Please be sure to check out our new purchase page to buy our necklaces and other jewelry.

(Kudos to anyone who gets the joke.)

My Mom has been busy, too! She made some prayer beads for Kristen to help with her recovery.

I want to help Kristen in her healing, so I designed prayer beads for her. I used agate, which are healing stones, because they are smooth, large, and comfortable so they will be easy for Kristen to hold. The shapes and pretty colors are to keep her attention. The Lotus blossom (round white bead) is for purity and movement of the soul toward enlightenment and represents Kristen.

Unfortunately, because of these sites and my other real life activities, that doesn’t leave much time for Marla Anson Photography. Oh well.
