First Kindle Book Completed
I just finished reading my first book using my Kindle app; Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.” I have to say that I am very impressed with the app. It was very easy for me to use, despite the fact that I can be a bit lacking in terms of technology. The features are pretty cool.
I chose to read Austen because her book was one of the free Kindle books on Amazon. I tend to shy away from books that date before the 1970′s because they usually cannot hold my interest, or the language used can be off putting. However, a free book is a free book and I figured I could use some exposure to some important literature. After getting past the language used (the speech of the early 1800′s in England can, in my opinion, qualify as an entirely different language) I found myself reading through it speedily. There were a lot of times that I had to read certain sentences over and over again because the meaning of them just wasn’t sinking in.
On a very positive note, upon completion of Austen’s work I feel a little more intelligent and am even finding it easier to string together sentences for this blog. I just purchased another of her works, “Emma.” I have the DVD of it as well so after I finish reading it (in, like, a month, ugh) I will have to watch the movie.
