Operation Ride An Elephant: SUCCESS!
Yesterday we finally took our trip to the Ren Faire. We spent thirty six dollars on tickets, and it was just shy of twent dollars for an adult and a child to ride the elephant, but for my son it was so worth it. He was simply awestruck with the Indian elephant that he rode on. Yesterday was definitely the highlight of Trent’s two years on this earth and I hope that he remembers it for a long time. Garrick was super excited because he got to ride the elephant with Trent. I kind of wanted to go, but I figured I would stay on the ground with Hunter, take pictures and let Garrick and Trent have some special time together. It’s good for them.

Britten had a date meet us there and after Trent rode the elephant she took off with him. He was good enough to bring her home since we left earlier than she wanted to. He seems like a really nice guy.
It was a little busier than I like yesterday, but I’m sure it was better than if we had gone on Columbus Day weekend. Next year I think I will try the week after Columbus Day, unless that also happens to be the last weekend of the Ren Faire. I made that mistake once and I am not doing THAT ever again! It was so busy you could barely even walk!
I also decided that until both the kids no longer need strollers or baby carriers and can mostly walk on their own I won’t be wearing my costume again for the Faire. With one kid last year it wasn’t so bad, but with two kids it was too much having to wear one of them on top having a corset on.
I did purchase a piece to add to my costume this year and I believe that I could use it in real life, too! I got a bag! It was expensive but it was so beautiful it was worth it. I kind of wanted to get a bag/purse this year and sort of had a picture in my mind of what I wanted. I was keeping my eyes open throughout the day for bags and a shop finally caught my eye. I had the most difficult time deciding on one since they were all so pretty. I’ll post a picture of it here eventually, along with the Garrick, Trent and elephant shots. It was definitely different than the leather bag I had originally envisioned, but I am super happy with it.

There are two thing that we didn’t do this year that I am kind of bummed about. I didn’t get a Tarot reading and we didn’t see Hack and Slash. I like to try and get a reading done every year. Last year was really neat becaue I actually stopped in to get one while it was pouring rain. Trent and I were drenched! The woman who did my reading told me I was going to have a baby boy and I was going to have a lot of obstacles ahead of me. Boy was she ever right! Everything worked out in the end though.
It’s also always fun to see Hack and Slash perform. They have a huge following at all the Rennaisance Festivals and they are really fun and funny. I always know what is going to be in the act, but we still like to watch them anyway! It was so busy that it was hard to sit at any performances, let alone the ever popular Hack and Slash. We tried to sit down to watch a Shakespeare performance, but Trent was just too busy to sit still for very long.
In addition to all the other adventures of the day, Trent got his own little wooden sword. He was very cute with it all day. The shop that sold it to us gave us a string so he wouldn’t drop it and lose it. We tied the sword onto a belt loop of Garrick’s pants and since Trent wouldn’t let go of the toy, he was attached to Daddy the entire time he was walking around. It was very cute watching him point the sword and say “GO!”
Another Rennaisance Festival done. Can’t wait until next year!
Update October 9, 2009: Here is the link for the place I got my bag from. Something Else Studio. I got a purse that is in this style, just a different design. I love it, it’s so pretty.
